spring and summer shows

major catch up post here!  this spring my piece "whorl" was accepted into newburyport art association's annual regional juried show!  afterwards over the summer i also had 4 pieces on display there in a group show with the abstract artists group of new england (a wonderful collaboration!).  finally, at the end of the summer i got to display my piece "tauten" in an open exhibition at naa as well, and was so thrilled to have it sold.  it's now in a wonderful new home!

constellations

here's a quick painting i did recently. i've been trying to break out of my usual mark making, and i definitely have a lot of ideas for a new body of work so i'll be posting more soon!  acrylic on canvas

essence of abstraction reception

this past thursday i took a trip down to nyc for the reception of the essence of abstraction, a group show i'm currently a part of in chelsea!  it was wonderful meeting the other artists and making some new connections, and already one of my three paintings has been sold!  the show will continue to be open to the public until march 22nd

fin.

happy to say that my thesis is finally complete! this will be the most recent piece in the group that i'll have on display at ArtWalk and the commencement exhibition. if you're in the baltimore area the show will be displayed all throughout campus from may 11th - may 14th!  i had a fantastic time working on this final canvas, and experimenting with some new shapes. acrylic on canvas, 42x70 in. i'll be glad to have at least one giant on display that's just about my size!

wood!

after incorporating some solid shapes into my last painting i decided to play around with them a little more.  it was nice taking a break from only using line, and it definitely is opening up a lot more possibilities for me. i'd be curious to hear everyone's thoughts, i may or may not work back into it later. this was also my first painting in years where i used wood panel instead of canvas, which was great for keeping the lines super smooth. acrylic on wood panel, longest side is about 3ft

diptych

this is by far my lengthiest piece, so make sure you click to see it a bit better! again a less than perfect photograph, but this one was particularly difficult to capture. i really want to continue using more solid shapes like this in my work, and i have a handful of ideas of ways to move forward. i'll also be updating my website with this piece as well as a couple of other additions, so check in soon! acrylic on canvas, 24 x 96 in.

mini painting

towards the end of the semester i started to play around with a couple of smaller paintings, since my work is usually fairly large.  opposites are always nice to try, though i think overall this really just made me miss my big canvases.  here's my favorite one, it's about 20in long, and acrylic on canvas.  also, i'm in the process of coding my website, and i'm hoping it will be finished in the next few weeks!

thesis #4

been trying to be as diverse as possible with my color palettes recently.  this one was definitely way out of my normal range, and regardless of how it came out i'm glad to have worked with it.  during my thesis review boards i was told this was a more "whimsical" direction to move towards, so i'm still pondering what the adjectives are that i really want my work to be.  all input is appreciated.  despite meticulous tweaking in photoshop, the colors are definitely not how they appear in person.  c'est la vie.  acrylic on canvas, 24x48

thesis #3

another thesis piece!  this one is much more similar to the work i did last spring.  i've been trying to refine which forms i like using most, and now getting to really explore surface possibilities, as it makes all the difference.  i discovered a couple new glossy glazing mediums that really make this one glow in person, so that was ever so satisfying!  acrylic on canvas, 30x40in

here's a commission that i just delivered today!  it gave me a good excuse to visit everyone from my internship at MPA!  acrylic on canvas, 24x48

thesis #2

another thesis piece! this one also has a subtly glossy surface that makes it a little brighter in person.  acrylic on canvas, 30in x 40in

thesis #1

just finished up my first thesis piece!  the effects of the glossy finish that it has translate a little strangely in a photo, but it didn't reflect too badly.  another large one, it's 48x60in, acrylic on canvas

commission!

here's a commission that i just finished up! i really wanted to work on some subtlety with my larger paintings, since i usually am all for the lack of space. the colors are a little more vibrant sitting in a naturally lit room, the yellow and little spots of red shine a bit more, and like always i tweaked the photograph for too long and was never satisfied. but it'll do, and i really had a lot of fun with this one! acrylic on canvas, a little over 60in long

giant #2

so here's another one of my giants from the spring semester. i worked on it on and off for a few months being indecisive and am trying to decide if i think it's finished. about 70in horizontally. acrylic on canvas.

giant #1

here's one of my junior independent giants! i'm calling it finished as far as the semester goes, but i might come back to it in the future...it changed so many times in the last few months that i'm still not sure which version of it i liked best. hopefully i won't sound like a broken record when i say that it looks so much better in person. acrylic on canvas, about 70in long
