this summer i was fortunate enough to be able to exhibit 20 paintings in the beautiful carr gallery at willard arts center in idaho falls, id. many, many thanks to the sponsors who made this solo show possible! click here to read a bit more about the show and see an online gallery of the exhibition, "movements". the show was also featured here in the culture trip's article "10 must-do art and culture events"!

this past thursday i took a trip down to nyc for the reception of the essence of abstraction, a group show i'm currently a part of in chelsea! it was wonderful meeting the other artists and making some new connections, and already one of my three paintings has been sold! the show will continue to be open to the public until march 22nd

spent almost all of yesterday and today moving out of my year-long studio space at mica and getting ready for the senior exhibition. here's a few snapshots. i'll miss having this much space, as the next studio will most likely be home based, at least for the short term!

happy to say that my thesis is finally complete! this will be the most recent piece in the group that i'll have on display at ArtWalk and the commencement exhibition. if you're in the baltimore area the show will be displayed all throughout campus from may 11th - may 14th! i had a fantastic time working on this final canvas, and experimenting with some new shapes. acrylic on canvas, 42x70 in. i'll be glad to have at least one giant on display that's just about my size!

after incorporating some solid shapes into my last painting i decided to play around with them a little more. it was nice taking a break from only using line, and it definitely is opening up a lot more possibilities for me. i'd be curious to hear everyone's thoughts, i may or may not work back into it later. this was also my first painting in years where i used wood panel instead of canvas, which was great for keeping the lines super smooth. acrylic on wood panel, longest side is about 3ft

this is by far my lengthiest piece, so make sure you click to see it a bit better! again a less than perfect photograph, but this one was particularly difficult to capture. i really want to continue using more solid shapes like this in my work, and i have a handful of ideas of ways to move forward. i'll also be updating my website with this piece as well as a couple of other additions, so check in soon! acrylic on canvas, 24 x 96 in.

towards the end of the semester i started to play around with a couple of smaller paintings, since my work is usually fairly large. opposites are always nice to try, though i think overall this really just made me miss my big canvases. here's my favorite one, it's about 20in long, and acrylic on canvas. also, i'm in the process of coding my website, and i'm hoping it will be finished in the next few weeks!

thought i'd share one of the three potentially ongoing drawing projects i've been working on this semester. this one in particular is graphite on separate sheets of bristol, a combined 38x72 in (19x24 in each). i've included a close up of each sheet, mostly as evidence of why my hand and back are giving out. i was reminded of how many ridiculous ways artists can injure themselves doing the most mundane things with this one, not to mention the other two that i'll try and post soon! as different as these are from my paintings, it was a really nice parallel to be working on them at the same time, i think they really informed each other a lot.

here are a few snapshots from my solo show, "Retrospections"! for any locals (or not!) the show is hanging in The Gateway, at 1601 Mount Royal Avenue, Baltimore MD, 21217. the show opened on november 18th, and will be open through december 9th, so make your way over in the next couple of weeks if you're able!

been trying to be as diverse as possible with my color palettes recently. this one was definitely way out of my normal range, and regardless of how it came out i'm glad to have worked with it. during my thesis review boards i was told this was a more "whimsical" direction to move towards, so i'm still pondering what the adjectives are that i really want my work to be. all input is appreciated. despite meticulous tweaking in photoshop, the colors are definitely not how they appear in person. c'est la vie. acrylic on canvas, 24x48
